Arc Raiders: How to get Scrappy to Max Level fast

Where to find Lemons, Apricots, Olives, Prickly Pears, and more

Scrappy, the Rooster companion in Arc Raiders, sits in the raider's room on the left side of the screen. In the foreground on the right are yellow outlined circles, each one containing different materials required to upgrade Scrappy. From top-left to bottom-right, the materials are: Lemon, Apricot, Prickly Pear, Cat Bed, Dog Collar, and Olives.

Looking to upgrade Scrappy to max level fast in Arc Raiders? As you'll know by now, our beloved Scrappy is the loud and helpful Rooster companion who lives in your room in Arc Raiders. Periodically Scrappy will go out and collect random bits of scrap material during your raids on the surface, allowing you to come back home and collect various basic materials from him for free.

Scrappy can also be "trained", improving the rate at which he gathers these crafting materials. As you progress through Arc Raiders, you'll find that the materials you run out of most quickly are the absolute basics: Metal Parts, Rubber Parts, Fabric, and so on. This is why it's so important to upgrade Scrappy's looting capabilities early on, because he's a phenomenal passive source of all these basic resources.

In this guide, I'll show you exactly how to upgrade Scrappy to max level, showing you all the resources you need to obtain and where to find each one. So if you're stuck searching for Lemons, Apricots, Prickly Pears, Olives, or whatever other materials Scrappy needs for his next level of training, you'll find your answers below.

In this guide:

How to get Scrappy to max level: All upgrades

You can upgrade Scrappy by entering your Workshop, clicking on Scrappy's icon, and then clicking Train. Each upgrade level requires different resources before you can level up Scrappy. With each new level, Scrappy will automatically acquire more resources between your raids, giving you a much stronger passive income of basic materials.

Here are all the upgrades and resources you need to reach Scrappy's max level:

  • Level 1: None
  • Level 2: 1x Dog Collar
  • Level 3: 3x Lemons, 3x Apricots
  • Level 4: 6x Prickly Pears, 6x Olives, 1x Cat Bed
  • Level 5 (Max): 12x Mushrooms, 12x Apricots, 3x Very Comfortable Pillows

Below I'll show you exactly where to go in each map to find each of the items you need for Scrappy in Arc Raiders.

Where to find a Dog Collar for Scrappy

Part of the map of Buried City in Arc Raiders, with the prime locations for finding Dog Collars highlighted in yellow.
Here's where to find a Dog Collar to upgrade Scrappy to Level 2. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Embark Studios

Dog Collar locations:

  • Dam Battlegrounds: Pale Apartments, Ruby Residence
  • Buried City: Santa Maria Houses, Plaza Rosa, Grandioso Apartments
  • Spaceport: Unlikely to find a Dog Collar here
  • The Blue Gate: Village, Raider's Refuge, Ruined Homestead, Abandoned Housing Project

Dog Collars are found mainly in Residential loot areas. Dam Battlegrounds doesn't explicitly state that any areas on the map are Residential, but they do still exist. The best place to find a Dog Collar early on is by exploring the Pale Apartments and Ruby Residence to the northwest of Dam Battlegrounds. In these apartments, check all the drawers and other loot containers you find, and you're likely to come across a Dog Collar.

If you've unlocked the second map, Buried City, then Dog Collars can easily be found at Santa Maria Houses and Plaza Rosa, found in the centre of Old Town. Another good place is the Grandioso Apartments, on the western edge of Buried City.

Where to find Lemons for Scrappy

Part of the map of The Blue Gate in Arc Raiders, with the prime locations for finding Lemons highlighted in yellow.
The Olive Grove is the most popular place to look for Lemons in Arc Raiders. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Embark Studios

Lemon locations:

  • Dam Battlegrounds: Hydroponics Dome Complex (Lush Blooms only)
  • Buried City: Marano Park, Old Town
  • Spaceport: Staff Parking, East Plains
  • The Blue Gate: Olive Grove, Village, Ruined Homestead

Lemons cannot normally be found in Dam Battlegrounds, so you must go to any of the other maps to find them for Scrappy. Lemons are found by interacting with Lemon Trees, which will cause lemons to fall to the ground so you can pick them up. Lemon Trees are small - little more than bushes, really - and they have quite bright green leaves, so keep an eye out for them.

The very best place to find Lemons in Arc Raiders is by visiting the Olive Grove on The Blue Gate map. This area is swimming with not just Lemon Trees but Apricot Trees as well. However, this area is very open, and often populated with ARC and other players. If you're struggling to get your Lemons and extract, I advise going in "naked" with no gear except some Adrenaline Shots so you can sprint in and out of Olive Grove as fast as possible.

If Olive Grove is proving too hot for your health, then you can also find Lemons in Marano Park - the large square park in the centre of Buried City. This is also quite dangerous, though, because it's so central and surrounded by popular loot buildings. Arguably the safest place to find Lemons is by visiting the Staff Parking area to the south of the Spaceport map.

Where to find Apricots for Scrappy

Part of the map of Dam Battlegrounds in Arc Raiders, with the prime locations for finding Apricots highlighted in yellow.
This is the best place to find Apricots anywhere in Arc Raiders. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Embark Studios

Apricot locations:

  • Dam Battlegrounds: Red Lakes
  • Buried City: Marano Park
  • Spaceport: East Plains
  • The Blue Gate: Olive Grove, Village

Apricots are typically gathered by shaking them loose from Apricot Trees, similar to Lemons. Easily the best place to find Apricots for Scrappy early on is by exploring the Red Lakes on the east side of Dam Battlegrounds. Apricot Trees are everywhere on the small islands in these lakes, and it's far away from the more populated areas of Dam Battlegrounds - though be aware certain buildings, like Research & Admin or the Testing Annex, can overlook the Red Lakes from afar.

You can also find Apricots in the Olive Grove in Blue Gate, so if you can survive entering and exiting this dangerous area then you can pick both Apricots and Lemons in a single raid. The same is true of Marano Park in the centre of Buried City - in fact you'll find many more Apricot Trees than Lemon Trees in this giant park. Refer to the screenshots above for both these locations - they hold true for Apricots just as much as Lemons.

Remember - you only need 3 Apricots to upgrade Scrappy to Level 3, but you need a whopping 12 more Apricots later on to upgrade him to his max level of Level 5. So it's a good idea to collect a surplus of Apricots whenever you're in the vicinity of these areas.

Where to find Prickly Pears for Scrappy

Part of the map of Buried City in Arc Raiders, with the prime locations for finding Prickly Pears highlighted in yellow.
You can find tonnes of Prickly Pears for Scrappy in these areas of Dam Battlegrounds and Buried City. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Embark Studios

Prickly Pear locations:

  • Dam Battlegrounds: Red Lakes, Victory Ridge
  • Buried City: Southern edge of map
  • Spaceport: East of Container Storage
  • The Blue Gate: Unlikely to find Prickly Pears here

To upgrade Scrappy to Level 4, you need to obtain 6 Prickly Pears, which are found near Cacti on every map except Blue Gate. Dam Battlegrounds has the most Prickly Pear spawns, and the highest concentrations of them are in the Red Lakes, and north of the Hydroponic Dome Complex.

You can also easily find Prickly Pears in Buried City, and this map has the benefit of having Prickly Pears spawn far away from the action, keeping you safer during your raid. The best place to find Prickly Pears on Buried City is at the very bottom edge of the map, in the cactus-filled area south of Plaza Rosa.

Where to find Olives for Scrappy

Part of the map of The Blue Gate in Arc Raiders, with the prime locations for finding Olives highlighted in yellow.
The Blue Gate has a monopoly on Olives, and it's almost all thanks to the Olive Grove. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Embark Studios

Olive locations:

  • Dam Battlegrounds: Unlikely to find Olives here
  • Buried City: Unlikely to find Olives here
  • Spaceport: Unlikely to find Olives here
  • The Blue Gate: Olive Grove, Checkpoint, Village

The easiest place to find guaranteed Olives for Scrappy is by visiting the Olive Grove on The Blue Gate map. However, this area is very dangerous owing to its long sightlines, lack of cover, and high ARC presence.

Olives can also be found elsewhere in Blue Gate, both in the southwest area of Checkpoint and in the fields in the centre of Village. None of these places are particularly safe, however. Your quest for Olives is probably the time I'd most strongly urge you to go in with no gear except Adrenaline Shots, and make finding and shaking those Olive Trees your top priority.

Where to find a Cat Bed for Scrappy

Cat Bed locations:

  • Dam Battlegrounds: Ruby Residence, Pale Apartments
  • Buried City: Santa Maria Houses, Plaza Rosa, Grandioso Apartments
  • Spaceport: Unlikely to find a Cat Bed here
  • The Blue Gate: Village, Raider's Refuge, Ruined Homestead, Abandoned Housing Project

Cat Beds are marked as both "Residential" and "Commercial", so you are most likely to find one for Scrappy in houses and apartments. Probably the safest place to find a Cat Bed is by exploring the Ruby Residence and Pale Apartments in the northwest corner of Dam Battlegrounds. However, if you want to maximise your chances of finding a Cat Bed, the best place to find one is in Old Town in Buried City, searching from house to house in the Santa Maria Houses (Residential) and Plaza Rosa (Commercial).

You'll also have a good chance of finding a Cat Bed by searching the Village in the north of The Blue Gate map, which is marked as both Commercial and Residential. You're far less likely to find a Cat Bed anywhere in The Spaceport, but it is possible if you're lucky.

Where to find Mushrooms for Scrappy

Part of the map of Dam Battlegrounds in Arc Raiders, with the prime locations for finding Mushrooms highlighted in yellow.
Mushrooms are very easy to find in bulk on the Dam Battlegrounds map. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Embark Studios

Mushroom locations:

  • Dam Battlegrounds: Formicai Hills, Swamp, Hydroponic Dome Complex
  • Buried City: Unlikely to find Mushrooms here
  • Spaceport: Unlikely to find Mushrooms here
  • The Blue Gate: Unlikely to find Mushrooms here

Mushrooms are very common in Dam Battlegrounds, which is good because to upgrade Scrappy to max level you need to find 12 Mushrooms in total. The easiest place to find Mushrooms in Dam Battlegrounds is by searching the forest on the Formicai Hills to the south, where Scrap Yard and Wreckage are located. Mushrooms often spawn very close to both these locations within the forest.

Mushrooms are also very common in the Swamp to the west of Dam Battlegrounds, although this is a massive area to trawl while foraging for fungi. Look out for large tree trunks on the ground and large, damp tunnels - these are both great spawning grounds for Mushrooms. You can also sometimes find Mushrooms growing inside the southernmost dome of the Hydroponic Dome Complex.

Where to find Very Comfortable Pillows for Scrappy

Part of the map of Buried City in Arc Raiders, with the prime locations for finding Very Comfortable Pillows highlighted in yellow.
Part of the map of The Blue Gate in Arc Raiders, with the prime locations for finding Very Comfortable Pillows highlighted in yellow.
Here are the ideal locations to find Very Comfortable Pillows for Scrappy's final upgrade. | Image credit: Rock Paper Shotgun/Embark Studios

Very Comfortable Pillow locations:

  • Dam Battlegrounds: Ruby Residence, Pale Apartments
  • Buried City: Santa Maria Houses, Plaza Rosa, Grandioso Apartments
  • Spaceport: Unlikely to find Very Comfortable Pillows here
  • The Blue Gate: Village, Raider's Refuge, Ruined Homestead, Abandoned Housing Project

The final resource you need to get Scrappy to max level is 3 Very Comfortable Pillows. These items are found in exactly the same areas as Cat Beds - Residential areas, and Commercial areas. For this reason, the best place to find Very Comfortable Pillows in bulk is in Buried City, exploring Santa Maria Houses and Plaza Rosa.

As with the Cat Beds, it's also a good idea to check the Village in the north of The Blue Gate for Very Comfortable Pillows, because you're likely to find some there as well. It's less of a priority to search in the residential areas of Dam Battlegrounds this time, because you need a full 3 Very Comfortable Pillows instead of just the one you needed for the Cat Beds requirement. Quantity of loot is more important here.

That wraps up this guide to all the resources you need to upgrade Scrappy to the highest possible level in Arc Raiders. But don't let your love of Scrappy distract you from improving yourself as well! Be sure to check out our guide on the best skills in Arc Raiders to unlock early on.
