At the center of any group’s material culture is technology. This would be newer technologies that are commercialized in the market by some, maybe they are still getting their feet underneath them and have more grassroots activity and less commercial activity where the open source project is really the core focal point for the technology or collection of open source projects.
In 2009, scientists at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and SkyFuel teamed to develop large curved sheets of metal that have the potential to be 30% less expensive than today’s best collectors of concentrated solar power by replacing glass-based models with a silver polymer sheet that has the same performance as the heavy glass mirrors, but at much lower cost and weight.
Other technologies in this trend include: DigitalOps, knowledge graphs, synthetic data and decentralized web. As stand-alone solutions, many emerging technologies are quite compelling, and adoption rates are accelerating in areas such as robotic process automation and the internet of things.
As machines grow in human intelligence, this technology will increasingly challenge our view of what it means to be human, as well as the risks and benefits posed by the rapidly closing gap between man and machine. There were also many conferences at this event, and I was able to attend a few conferences and it appears that many startups from different sectors rely on virtual reality technology.
This requires leading your teams to adopt (and adapt to) emerging technologies, like blockchain , augmented reality or artificial intelligence—just to name a few. Dozens of technologies with the power to transform human life, from 3D printing to cognitive implants, could become as ordinary as a cellphone by 2040.
